Common Questions

Things People Often Ask

What happens during the initial consultation?
The initial consultation is a private, unhurried conversation. We ask about your circumstances, listen carefully, and explain the legal options that may apply — including whether mediation could suit your situation. You leave with a clearer picture of what is possible, and there is no obligation to proceed.
How long does a divorce typically take in Malaysia?
An uncontested divorce, where both parties agree on terms, can be finalised in around three to six months through the courts. A contested matter may take longer depending on the complexity. We will give you a realistic indication once we understand your specific circumstances.
How are custody and access arrangements decided?
Malaysian courts consider the welfare of the child as the paramount concern. Factors such as the child's age, existing relationships, and practical living arrangements all play a part. We help you present your situation clearly, and where both parents can agree, we can help put that agreement into a legally recognised form without going to court.
Are your fees fixed, or do they change as a matter progresses?
Our listed prices cover the scope of each service as described. If additional work falls outside that scope, we will always let you know and obtain your agreement before proceeding. There are no hidden charges.
Will everything I share with you remain private?
Yes. As registered members of the Malaysian Bar, we are bound by strict professional duties of confidentiality. What you share with us stays with us, and we will never disclose your information to a third party without your express consent, except where required by law.
Can I get advice if I am not sure whether to proceed with a divorce?
Absolutely. Many people come to us at an early stage when they are still weighing their options. We are here to inform, not to steer. Our family consultation service is exactly the right starting point — we explain the implications of different paths and leave the decision entirely with you.
